In the quiet space between thought and breath lives a truth older than language. Words are not just sounds or scribbles on a page. They are alive. They carry energy. They shape the unseen. In Japanese tradition, this is known as Kotodama or the spirit of the word. A spoken phrase has life. It moves, it creates, it heals, or it harms.
I was reminded of this in two particular moments.
Vladimir, after a conversation, shared a few sincere, kind words with me. A few compliment but it struck deeply. It recharged me. I found myself inspired to move more, train longer, and bring even more Qi into my practice. His words were like sparks lighting an internal fire.
Then came Kru Ohm yesterday. He is my Krabi Krabong instructor from Thailand.
Our group had gathered to train. The heat was extreme which lowered the overall energy. Then he spoke at the end to all of us. With purpose, with presence. Not many words, but the effect was instant. His compliments carried intention, kindness and inspiration. In that moment, the whole group shifted. Spirits rose. Movement sharpened. We connected with something deeper. The room came alive.
That is Kotodama.
Every word carries spirit. Every sentence carries weight. Kindness, encouragement, respect, each feeds the soul. Words are not empty. They are “living beings.” Speak without awareness, and you scatter shadows. Speak with heart, and you shine light into places that need it most.
Vladimir reminded me that one true compliment can reignite a fire.
Kru Ohm reminded me that a few focused words can lift an entire group.
Life reminds us, over and over, that words can create or destroy. So speak carefully. Speak consciously. Speak as if your words will live on inside the people who hear them because they will.
Speak life. Speak strength. Speak from the soul.
Your words are living energy. Use them wisely.
